Courtney’s They Don’t Make ‘Em Like They Used To: The Three O’Clock

When I was about 15 or 16 I put my best mod suit on and went downtown with my scooter boys to an empty room in an old warehouse and watched this amazing band with about twenty other scenesters.

San Diego was rumored to have had a strong md scene at the time so we all were under the impression that The Three O’Clock was an S.D. band. They were in fact an LA band and part of what was called the paisley underground which included Rain Parade and the Bangles amongst other 60’s influenced jangle guitar bands.

It just courted to me that the room was called “occupied space” and is now a sushi restaurant called Masu. They have the best salmon sashimi in the world. It’s true. I hope it survives the lockdown.

courtney taylor-taylor, they don't make 'em
