Public Water Public Vote Event October 7 in Portland

I have worked my tail off bringing bands together for something I feel very strongly about. In the last week I’ve organized an event that will bring together 17 bands and 3 DJs to stand united in support of democracy and our right to vote. Our right to make decisions collectively as a community and a vibrant independent city. This event will represent Portland in her truest form, and send a message to our government that the artists and citizens of Portland are willing to stand up to them when they are not serving our city and her people they way they should be. Besides that, it’s gonna be one helluva fun mini festival! Tons of music and performance artists, food carts, raffles and all kinds of creative, good spirited, family fun!

Who: This event is being organized by Zia McCabe with The Dandy Warhols in cooperation with Clean Water Portland PAC. Clean Water Portland is leading the campaign to qualify the Portland City Council’s water fluoridation decision for a public vote. The campaign is working to gather the 20,000 valid signatures needed to qualify the referendum measure that will give the public a chance to vote.

What & Why: An all day, three stage concert to promote the public’s right to vote on the controversial water fluoridation decision recently announced by the Portland City Council. The event is aimed at highlighting why the City Council’s decision, which was directly contrary to three previous public votes in Portland opposing water fluoridation, should be put to voters once again through a citizen referendum. Petition signatures will be collected and all funds raised will be donated to Clean Water Portland for their signature gathering effort.

I’m not sure if you are aware of the recent city council decision to fluoridate Bull Run, Portland’s and other surrounding cities main water supply. It was done very sneakily with no debates and only one city council hearing in the middle of the day while most folks are at work. By time this hearing happened, the 5 city council members, after only hearing from pro fluoride speakers, had already decided to vote for fluoridation.

I believe an issue with so much new information and one rife with controversy should be put to a public vote. Knowing it has been voted down the past three times also makes the city council’s behavior quite suspicious.

I’ve decided to volunteer to collect signatures (we need 20,000 valid ones in 30 days, we are already half way through that time, to get a referendum to block the city council decision and get this issue on the ballot where it belongs), organize events that raise money and awareness and last but not least I’m now taking a break from those two things to do some direct donation fund raising.

Yep, I’m asking you to make a contribution. As I’m sure you know, the other side is very well funded and they’ve hired one of the most powerful lobbyists. I’m standing up for democracy and clean water. I’m reaching out to you because I assume you feel the same as I do.

My goal is to raise $1,000 today, I’m over half way there.

Please go to www.cleanwaterportland.org to make your contribution. Every little bit really does help this movement keep moving.

Thanks so much for you time and your support.

Sincerely,

ZIA MCCABE

Our Water, Our Vote

“OUR WATER OUR VOTE!”

This is the current sentiment being expressed by Portlanders outraged over the city council vote to fluoridate Bull Run water supply behind our backs and fast tracking the legislation, depriving the citizens time to educate themselves on this personal and  controversial matter.  Democracy has been completely stepped on here! Booooo!

Quote from Fluoride Free Oregon site:

“Portland, it’s time to take a stand on what it means to really and truly care about what our citizens think and feel about water fluoridation. It is our time to do more than just throw toxic and cheap band-aids at issues and call it equity. This is our time to show the world, who is indeed watching, from Malaysia to Australia to New York and Phoenix, that Portland’s water is world-class and that we don’t believe in jumping off fluoride bridges, just because so many other states are doing it.”

Anywho, as soon as Portland City Council voted to approve fluoridation of Portland water, Clean Water Portland PAC filed a citizen referendum to repeal that ordinance. This referendum gives Portlanders 30 days to collect 20,000 valid signatures from registered Portland voters. A successful referendum will put a hold on the implementation city council vote, and allow citizens of Portland to vote on whether or not to add fluoridation chemicals to our drinking water. If you would like to collect signatures, here is the link to download signature pages: cleanwaterportland.org/download/
Aaaaand, Fluoride Free Portland has three times coming up to educate people on how to most effectively get the signatures we need. Meet here: 408 SE 6th Ave, at the Corner of 6th and Oak, Friday, 5:30pm is the 1st one & the 2nd one is at 7pm then Saturday at 10:30am. Yours truly will be there at 7pm tonight along with many other awesome volunteers to help train and inspire you. : )

There are more rock n roll related events in the works to support democracy and protect our water. I’ll keep you posted on any developments with those.

A Word About Chateau Taylor-Taylor

Oh it’s getting pretty exciting for Chateau Double Taylor. We’re taking PRE ORDERS now and depending on weather will begin shipping later this month.

Now the price is lower and the more bottles you order the lower the cost of shipping and vino.

I was asked about it a lot during this last trip to Europe and it looks like I’ll be able to work out shipping directly from the Sicilian vintners for that side of the pond.

Order up now cuz they’re making a limited amount for me and it IS the best red wine pairing for spicy food that I’ve ever had.

Love and vino,

COURTNEY TAYLOR-TAYLOR

Wine Update

Ok it looks like we haven’t gotten retail permission for outside the USA so lemme work on it. Thanks everyone for your outstanding show of patience.

It’s too hot to ship wine for at least another month or two so I’ll try to get it going in time for the ship date. Alcohol I’m finding has a lot of weird and old laws surrounding it.

Chateau Taylor-Taylor Presale August 11

Okay, so that RED wine that I survived third-degree burns in my mouth all across America to create is nearly ready.  The presale goes online

[fergcorp_cdt_single date=”Fri, 10 Aug 2012 23:20:00″]

This wine if you’ll remember is designed to bring the old world red wine experience to spicy foods. Something I’ve been hoping for years that someone else would do.

I spent the last tour across the US trying to figure out what and why red wine tends to make spicy go blistering in RED wine.  I ended up getting a lot of help, advice, and experience and finally came up with a blend of two fairly obscure Sicilian grapes that deliver an earth and mineral old world red with a vaguely bright opening bouquet.  Do I sound like an asshole yet?  Well I’m pretty serious about wine so believe me, this is beautiful in the order of older Borolo, Rioja and Bordeaux or even a little Barbaresco except bigger.

You’ll shit.  It’s awesome.
