Taylor-Taylor Mixed Wolfmen Single Released Today

The CTT mixed single by The Wolfmen, “July 20”, is also out today.  Here is a little interview on the Wolfmen site with Court about working with the Wolfment, interior spaces, and birthdays.

What vibe were after with the July 20 remixes – one with Jacob and the other with Jeremy – were there any influences or source material you used for reference?
With Jake we referenced “Never Met a Girl Like You Before” by that cat from Orange Juice. With Jeremy we referenced that Stranglers tune with the harpsichord (Golden Brown) that got so big again a few years back. Ultimately though, once ya get into a mix it doesn’t really help listening to anything else. We only listen for fun at the beginning. Once you start a mix in earnest you’re on your own.

Will you be producing/remixing any other Wolfmen tunes
Oh I’m sure I probably will. They know they can count on me and my guys to churn out cool stuff and since I don’t have to pay for studio time at the Odditorium it saves them a lot of heartache as well as money.

July 20 is a birthday shared by you and Chris – are you typical Cancerians
Yeah I think we are. I know that I am fer sure. Very homebody. I’m obsessive about my interiors and they are not only spectacular but ergonomically borderline genius. They have to be, what with me having such a low tolerance for wasted time/space/energy. Another cliché’ is being hard, cold and business-like on the outside but a Mr. Snugglycuddlyman on the inside. That pretty much describes my days to a T.

What’s been your wildest or most memorable birthday
Oh I really think that more amazing than all the sex drugs rock n roll birthdays that I can’t quite remember was the fifty foot slip-n-slide on the hill behind my house for my birthday last year. All the booze and chemicals and partying in the world, all the drunk driving and sad lonely endings only happened because there wasn’t a fifty footer in the back yard.

Are there any plans for a Dandy Wolfmen team-up? What cover would you use as an ice-breaker at a both band-jam
An icebreaker jam has to just sort of “happen” but if I were to script it into the
movie I’d have it be “Suffragette City”(sp) or “Bela Lugosi’s Dead”.

Have you managed to see any gems from Marco’s legendary guitar collection.
Nope. Not seen Marco’s guitars.

Go to the Wolfmen site to hear these mixes of “July 20” and  buy them.

Brent DeBoer: The Farmer

Brent DeBoer has a collection of songs out today on CD called The Farmer.  These are songs Fathead wrote and recorded over the past few years with Brian Coates (you know him).  It’s a CD-Only release on Fathead’s own Headness Records, and part  of the proceeds go to the fight against Multiple Sclerosis. The record can be purchased at CDbaby.com.

Here is a video for You Win directed by Mike Bruce.

Ghosts of April Fools Past

There was this April Fools Popeye cartoon that I couldn’t find on YouTube. (And by couldn’t find I mean I didn’t actually look.) This was just like a normal Popeye cartoon – Popeye and Bluto are beating the garbage out of each other for no reason – except after Bluto dive bombs Popeye with a Spitfire or Popeye drops the Chrysler Building on Bluto, they shout out “April Fools!” Yeah, that makes it all better.  Oh, it’s all in good fun.

Anyway, I could not come up with a good enough prank (LAZY) to pull on youse guys, so here’s one of those videos we made while recording The Dandy Warhols Are Sound in 2002, which is as pranky like as we can get around here.

Notes for Friday Jan 22

Hey, our site is a little different again.  Oh, you noticed?  I’m glad.  I will be fiddling with the style over the weekend, so if things go crazy, it’s just me messing things up, as usual.

If you’re in Portland this weekend, please go see our friend Logan Lynn at Berbati’s. Five bucks and the show starts at 9:30.

If you have not donated to help the cause in Haiti, please consider donating to the Red Cross at your neighborhood Starbucks, or check out http://www.charitywatch.org.

Hey all

Lee here, Dandy’s Manager. Our booking agents organized this Starbucks Haiti Relief donation drive with proceeds to The Red Cross. There are many other charities doing good work as well if you want to donate but don’t have a Starbucks near you or for any reason have political concerns in donating to The Red Cross. New Years Twenty Ten

If you’re like me, I’m so sorry. No, if you’re like me you have an affinity for New Years, like one-hundred times stronger than with The Christmas.  (Sacrilege.) Because no matter what, I’m always saying to myself “well, that was the worst year ever,” and for once I can just maybe look forward to something not so terrible.  And hey, I’m looking forward to people saying “Twenty-ten” – the thought of not having to hear “two-thousand-and-blah” ad infinitum, I’m pretty damned giddy about that.  Maybe I will even leave the Gothman Estate, go out and venture into the cloud of irresponsible drunkards one more time in observance of this turning of the decade.  Wouldn’t that be something?

Well, if there was any show that would bring out a zombie shut-in, the one cooked up for 31 DEC 09 would be it.

Give me a break.  The World Famous Kenton Club in North Portland will be packed.  Don’t dress like a bum, and maybe take it easy with the sauce.

Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more.

BTW: Guild Guitar Contest

Hey it looks like Beat The World is on fire, just blatantly giving things away now.  Like Logan Lynn parties and free music and guitars and, wait what? Guitars?

Since I’m prone to using my own flowery languange to augment and that usually end up getting us into trouble with contest and whatevers, I’ll copy and paste what Ryan, our label manager, wrote at beattheworld.com:

Beat The World Records is excited to announce that we are partnering with Guild Guitars to offer a dynamite guitar giveaway contest to fans of Beat The World Records and our artists.

The best part is that everyone who enters will receive a Beat The World Records Compilation EP (Digital Format), featuring one song from each of our artists, including The Dandy Warhols, The Upsidedown, Logan Lynn, Spindrift, and 1776!

One (1) grand prize winner will receive a new Guild® GAD-JF3012 acoustic guitar, as featured in the photo. This guitar regularly retails for approximately: $1,799.99 (USD).

Ten (10) other winners will receive a Beat The World Records Gift Pack, featuring one digital format record from each of our artists

To enter the contest, you must simply click on the “Enter Now” button below and submit a valid email address. Each entrant/person may only enter the contest once. Everyone who enters the contest will instantly be given access to download the Beat The World Compilation EP (Apple Lossless Digital Format) and will be entered into the drawing for the grand prize: a Guild® GAD-JF3012 acoustic guitar; and for the Beat The World Records Gift Pack .

The contest is open for entries through January 5th, 2010. The contest winners will be drawn at random by a Beat The World Records employee. Employees and associates of Beat The World Records, The Dandys Warhols, and any affiliates will not be eligible for entry.

I wonder if I can get fired and then shunned from the group in order to win this guitar.  I bet I will just for making this joke.

AND TELL YOUR FRIENDS!

BTW: Logan Lynn Listening Party Sunday

Our label mate Logan Lynn is receiving significant ink ‘n pixels about his new record From Pillar to Post so we thought we would throw Logan an old fashioned Dandys-style listening party this Sunday night.  Hell yeah.  And if you’re in Portland  you can come to Logan’s party for freezies. After sufficient digestion of Logan’s awesome new disc, Rescue, the famous DJ who shares the same DNA as Zia because she is Zia, will be spinning tunes on what she calls a turntable, because that’s what DJs do. This party will have food stuff and drink stuff, and probably someone will attempt to take their clothes off.  Then what?  I don’t know, probably something “adult.”  (This party is twenty-one and over, but really if you’re under twenty-one, stop trying to grow up so fast and enjoy being so adorably young.)

Here are the details in the popular un-Gothman-rambling prose version:

LOGAN LYNN LISTENING PARTY
with DJ RESCUE (ZIA MCCABE)
SUNDAY – 11/22/09 – 8PM
JINX (21+)
232 NW 12TH, PEARL DISTRICT – PDX
