(1998) Directed by John Frankenheimer Even the ham-fisted writing, scoring and sometimes editing can’t stop Robert DeNiro and several other great actors from entertaining you for around 100 minutes of “okay, let’s have another car chase….um, again”. |

(2009) Directed by J.J. Abrams Not only is this amazing (in spite of the cheap drama of Kirk getting the crap beat out of him for about two solid hours) but more importantly it will go down as the greatest feat of casting in the history of motion pictures. |

We had some of the New York Dolls over to the Odditorium for dinner the other night. So fun. Really cool guys. Had great food and drank a case of damn nice wine. Then we jammed. Zia and Sylvain Sylvain put some French vocals on a piece of our Tafelmusik record and boy is it cool. I think we might actually have a single in french speaking countries for our three hour record. We also had them play on the Breathe Easy project which we will hopefully have time to crank back up fairly soon.

Our three hour dinner party soundtrack is progressing surprisingly well. After quickly learning to remove any “undigestive” sounds, putting our loops and keyboard jams into a sensible evenings order has been fairly simple so far. Minimalism being the key to subtlety here.

By the way, we regret now terribly not setting a camera up during those jam days but we’re going to at our next practices. We’ll post them somehow. Even if they’re not interesting.

The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (1962) Directed by John Ford No matter how much high school stage performance is going on here, I could watch Lee Marvin, John Wayne and Jimmy Stewart for another six to eight hours easy. |

From what I’ve read so far, there’s nothing here quite as clever or alluring as the title.
A lot of trivium of varying kinds. Can’t even remember one.
This, on the other hand, is very clever and insightful, but with a not as clever as it wants to be title.
It’s a rant that is half anecdotes from growing up to become a pez dispenser and half bits of wisdom for dealing with what she thinks are her unique problems. They’re actually very normal problem but often with famous names attached to the anecdotes. Quick read. Great for travel.

Well I have now played Apples to Apples, and it actually is really great. And this comes from a bona fide 1950’s tape-on-the-corners, boxed wood tiles, beveled edge, Scrabble-Man, four-way with a Lazy Susan. This game and rent-a-movie will get an entire night to happen for several people. (If you get the movie right.)
And it says “party box” right on the party box!

(2007) Directed by Francis Lawrence I don’t usually dig on horror flicks or Will Smith so much but I must say that something here worked for me. |
