Our friend Logan Lynn speaks to Courtney Taylor-Taylor, Carrie Brownstein (Sleater-Kinney, Portlandia), and Calvin Johnson (K-Records founder) about the Crystal Ballroom‘s centennial celebration their favorite memories of the legendary Portland venue.
Taylor-Taylor: Right now, it is the focal center of Portland’s world-renowned indie music scene. It is the single, central part of it. It gets the biggest bands, the best bands. The Vic in Chicago, The Fillmore in San Francisco, The 9:30 Club in Washington D.C., 1st Avenue in Minneapolis, Crystal in Portland — these are the legendary rooms.

I love my life. Out with the old, in with the new. It’s all good. This too shall pass. Better to regret things you’ve done than things you haven’t. And you can do anything you want until someone tells you not too. Yep, all of that. Oh and, one man’s junk is another man’s treasure and now is all we have.
Happy New Year! Serene 2014.

Dear friends & fans,
Jeremy Wilson of the Dharma Bums started The Jeremy Wilson Foundation to assist musicians and artists in medical crisis. He wrote me personally in the hopes that I could reach some people before the end of this year. Not only is this a great organization to donate to but they have a very special offer right now that’s about to expire.
Thanks for reading and any contribution is much appreciated.
Happy New Year,
ZIA MCCABE
From Jeremy Wilson:
This year our 501(c)3 musicians’ health and services organization has taken part in the Willamette Weeks GiveGuide campaign. Monqui presents is our partner in the campaign. Not only have they made a $5000.00 cash donation to the JWF GiveGuide campaign, but they are also offering a 4 Person VIP Package to ALL Edgefield concerts (16 to 20 shows!) for 2014 if someone or some company makes a minimum of $6000.00 donation to the JWF through GiveGuide this year at http://bit.ly/1bZjoRQ before midnight December 31st – Tuesday (the VIP package is valued at $12,000.00) The VIP package includes – private covered seating area at Edgefield, all food and drinks supplied and private facilities too. Monqui does not make this available to the general public and mostly supplies the VIP area for their biggest concert sponsors. You can use the tickets for yourself, friends or as gifts to your business partners as well.
I hope you will consider this wonderful opportunity and make a donation today if you can; or let someone know that might be interested. We also are accepting ANY SIZE DONATION Please help us spread the word. Thanks for your time! And also, thanks for all the great things you do for this crazy world!! You bring much happiness!

Well Merry Christmas everyone. Wow this has been an epic month and I’d just like to wrap it up with a picture of my mom’s apple pie. It’s really just about perfect. I’ve saved myself a slice and will be sticking it in the toaster oven tomorrow morning while my coffee is brewing. That may end up being the best part yet and ya know, it really is the most wonderful time of the year.
