This is pretty neat, a visual interpretation of our Gigography in handy world map form. Thanks to follower @matamix for bringing this to our attention. Also, thanks for using Futura, you’ve been paying attention to me!!
Oh no, we have these shirts sitting in Melbourne and getting infested with scary poison mutant spiders not making us any money at all, and since we have been hearing shipping from the US to Australia is like $10,000 (THANKS OBAMA), we figured we’d kill two spiders birds with one stone and offer them to Aussies to buy and not have to pay the ridiculous international shipping. (Just regular ridiculous shipping.)
We’re offering the always popular Oregon Flag shirt, the 2011 Ned Kelly Tour shirt, the 2012 Australia Tour shirt, and a black tote bag, good for carrying first aide books about spider bites. See these items HERE IN OUR ONLINE STORE.
Last night I went to see this one-man show about James Beard. I went to dinner at Blue Hour then walked around the corner to see the play. That was a perfect evening. I highly recommend it and if you don’t live in Portland I can tell you it would be worth flying in for, in my book.
The dude playing James Beard is totally amazing. Charming and brazen, wordly and world-weary. I wanted so badly to take him out to dinner or have him over to the Oddy for a nice 7 course wine pairing but then I realized, “DOH! That’s not James Beard, that’s an actor. DAMN. This guy is good.”
P.S. At Blue Hour I had Oregon Coast Kumamotos with a glass of Veuve (by the glass. Rad) and then the black cod with a risotto cake. Brought my own Croatian wine. Awesome. All was right and true in the world of food.
[C17: from Latin gnathōnicus, from Gnathō, such a character in the Eunuchus, Roman comedy by Terence]
Zia won the OnPoint Community Credit Union Celebrity Spelling Bee last night, spelling “gnathonic,” which is such a damn fine word I wonder why I have never used it, such a cartoon villain word. (My dumb computer dictionary thinks it’s spelt wrong. Oh yeah, MacBook Pro, how would YOU spell it?? Oh, no suggestions? I thought so.)
Anyway, the bee brought out such Portland luminaries as Killer Dave, the president of the Blazers, and the new mayor Charlie Hales. This event was to benefit Schoolhouse Supplies, an award-winning nonprofit that supports public education in Portland by giving students and teachers free classroom supplies. Please check out their site, and if you can, please donate.
I’ve never been a strong speller but I’ve been studying and will do my best for this good cause of providing school supplies for schools, teachers and students in need.
The Onpoint Community Credit Union Spelling Bee, presented by Comcast, will bring our community of supporters together to celebrate Schoolhouse Supplies and our growth and success over the last twelve years. This evening of intelligent fun, held on Thursday, January 31, 2013 from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Portland Art Museum, will bring together past Spelling Bee winners, along with new challengers, all vying for the title of Portland’s Spelling Champion.
With the help of local businesses and the support of the community, this has become one of Portland’s most anticipated events. In addition to the Spelling Bee, a silent auction, raffle and special appeal help raise vital funding for Schoolhouse Supplies.
Hey, there are some new items in our little store. Last year’s Tour de France tee and Black Christmas tee are just $19.99 and $9.99 respectively, along with the Dandys Army jacket making its return, it’s $44.99.
Pete and Zia geeked out today at their new favorite spot for synth/sequencer/pedal etc. lovers, Control Voltage on N. Mississippi in Portland. If you dig this kind of stuff like we do, you need to stop by and lose a few hours in this place. Or, check out their site, since at least a few million of ya don’t live here yet.
Holy shit. These are my favorite dudes ever. When they’re all walking up to the house in the last shot I get this deja vu feeling that we’re all about to get really drunk and have an awesome time.
This is the book that got me home from our recent European tour. It was the perfect book for the job. It actually made me want the flight to be a little longer.
Basically it’s the life story of a small town 80’s cheese rocker who always gets in, but never gets all the way to the top, and ultimately finds out that he’s way better off where he is. (Which is: one of the most successful pop songwriter/producers in the world today, so….). But anyway, this guy is awesome, the stories are superfun, his life has been filled with stories of being tricked, fucked, lied to, lied about, ripped off, manipulated and screwed over that I thought only happened to The Dandy Warhols. Nice to know we weren’t the only sucker dipshits in the game.
Anyhoo, I’ve never heard any of his music and he does occasionally say some pretty silly shit but I can honestly say I’m a fan of him, his “voice” and his attitude about life so get this book. It’s great.
