Ok, the wine is at the port in New York. It’s in America and is getting trucked to the warehouse today or Monday. THEN it gets sent to everybody who bought some and curry and mexican food sales are gonna skyrocket!
I tell you what though, I’m gonna have a major Mexican seven course dinner party and go thru like two cases the first night. God this is exciting.
It’s a quick read at 174 pages so a chunk of afternoon spent on the sofa has yielded quite a lot of brain stimulation.
What an amazing clarity this translation has, too.
What with all the dark associations and the centuries and languages between then and now I think it is still safe to say this Machiavelli guy was really really bright.
For some reason I was always under the impression that he was royalty but turns out he wasn’t. He was a rather fortunate young man but it turned ugly of course, and naturally this work of genius wasn’t appreciated in its time.
It’s also not about being underhanded and sneaky but rather about how you must know what the nature of your troubles are and/or how to hopefully circumvent them. Failing that, recognizing and choosing the lesser of evils when dealing with them is probably the part where he got such a bum rap.
Anyhoo its a fun read. Get it. Actually mine is inscribed to me by my friend Patrick and I must say a good, compact hardbound copy of this book inscribed is a pretty badass gift idea for a certain type of person. Probably the type of person who is reading this right now.
I have worked my tail off bringing bands together for something I feel very strongly about. In the last week I’ve organized an event that will bring together 17 bands and 3 DJs to stand united in support of democracy and our right to vote. Our right to make decisions collectively as a community and a vibrant independent city. This event will represent Portland in her truest form, and send a message to our government that the artists and citizens of Portland are willing to stand up to them when they are not serving our city and her people they way they should be. Besides that, it’s gonna be one helluva fun mini festival! Tons of music and performance artists, food carts, raffles and all kinds of creative, good spirited, family fun!

Who: This event is being organized by Zia McCabe with The Dandy Warhols in cooperation with Clean Water Portland PAC. Clean Water Portland is leading the campaign to qualify the Portland City Council’s water fluoridation decision for a public vote. The campaign is working to gather the 20,000 valid signatures needed to qualify the referendum measure that will give the public a chance to vote.
What & Why: An all day, three stage concert to promote the public’s right to vote on the controversial water fluoridation decision recently announced by the Portland City Council. The event is aimed at highlighting why the City Council’s decision, which was directly contrary to three previous public votes in Portland opposing water fluoridation, should be put to voters once again through a citizen referendum. Petition signatures will be collected and all funds raised will be donated to Clean Water Portland for their signature gathering effort.
I’m not sure if you are aware of the recent city council decision to fluoridate Bull Run, Portland’s and other surrounding cities main water supply. It was done very sneakily with no debates and only one city council hearing in the middle of the day while most folks are at work. By time this hearing happened, the 5 city council members, after only hearing from pro fluoride speakers, had already decided to vote for fluoridation.
I believe an issue with so much new information and one rife with controversy should be put to a public vote. Knowing it has been voted down the past three times also makes the city council’s behavior quite suspicious.
I’ve decided to volunteer to collect signatures (we need 20,000 valid ones in 30 days, we are already half way through that time, to get a referendum to block the city council decision and get this issue on the ballot where it belongs), organize events that raise money and awareness and last but not least I’m now taking a break from those two things to do some direct donation fund raising.
Yep, I’m asking you to make a contribution. As I’m sure you know, the other side is very well funded and they’ve hired one of the most powerful lobbyists. I’m standing up for democracy and clean water. I’m reaching out to you because I assume you feel the same as I do.
My goal is to raise $1,000 today, I’m over half way there.
Please go to www.cleanwaterportland.org to make your contribution. Every little bit really does help this movement keep moving.
Perth and Adelaide have been added to our upcoming Australian tour, on 13th and 15th November, respectively. See below for all the dates in a fancy-pants grid.
Me and Nick at his family winery. Tasted a couple German style whites from Oregon wine country that I liked. The place was ridiculously beautiful. Four-wheelers with Gewurtrameiner sloshing around in some pretty nice stemware. Old wine hippies are cool.
