Oscar Wao

Well the narrative doesn’t exactly cruise right along. By page 78 I found myself flipping through the rest of the book reading a page here and there. This guys writing style is fantastic but it constipates after a short while. I don’t know if I’ll ever finish it.

OK, somebody at the Satyricon show is funny.

Tour Report

The last leg of our touring for the year has got off to a great start. With the 3rd show being my favorite so far.

Here is a very flattering review of the Seattle show.

PS: This means we’ve played three great shows in a row in Seattle (Neumo’s, Bumbershoot and Showbox), a place I always considered us to be hit or miss.  Nice to know we’ve got a place so close to home we can now count on enjoying. Way to go Seattle fans!

RE: Vintage Caper

As far as plots and stories go this one is just plain silly. But then again that’s not what it’s about. If you’re into food, France and French wine this is what might be called an elegant romp and it’s definitely for you.

I’m gonna read The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao next. Just as soon as we’ve had our two-day break from tour.

The Vintage Caper

Our gig last night was magic. If I had gotten more than seven hours of sleep I’d still be reading but I’m too tired to concentrate on one thing for more than a few minutes. Or pages.

This is a whodunnit about a three-million dollar wine heist. I’m in heaven. It also happens to be written by my favorite kind of modern writer: a wit who can keep out of his own way.

Check out this cool, um,”art” installation on the U.S./Canadian border. (Click to enlarge.)

Pirate Latitudes

Apparently this book was discovered as a complete manuscript after Crichton’s death in 2008. I didn’t even know he had died. Well the book is pretty damn fun. It’s got me through four flight delays and one cancellation, three van rides and a seaplane.

One thing though, it’s been a while since I watched Captain Horatio Hornblower but I kept thinking that this was the same story. Or was it Yellowbeard.

With Pummelings and Daggery

I forgot to stop at Powells so this was kinda the only choice left to me from the PDX news stand.  It has the word “pirate” in the title and right below it is the sentence: “Crichton’s ultimate adventure.”  Ooh, that sounds great.

Well, seventy pages in I can tell you that it’s pretty goofy.  It reads like a book for kids but with pummelings and daggery.  This book also seems to have an abundance of wenching.  Oh well, at least the swashbuckling is gonna commence any page now…

North American Tour Resumes Wednesday

The Dandy Warhols 2010 North American Tour resumes Wednesday night as we cross the border to Victoria for a show at Sugar Nightclub.  Then it’s on to Vancouver the next night at Commodore Ballroom, and Seattle’s Showbox at the Market on Friday, December 3rd.  We pick back up in San Diego (Solana Beach) on Tuesday, December 7th at Belly Up, then over to a rare show in Las Vegas at the Hard Rock on Wednesday the 8th. On Friday, December 10th we are in Los Angeles at Club Nokia, then up the coast to the City and County of San Francisco and the Regency Ballroom on Saturday (12/11) before returning home to Portland on Sunday the 12th for the final Dandys show of the year at the Crystal Ballroom.

Plus, some lucky so-and-sos will have a chance to win tickets to our shows in Seattle, LA, and SF from TheRFW.COM. God bless us everyone!
