Farewell to Satyricon

Portland rock club Satyricon , dubbed by some as CBGB of the West Coast, will be closing its doors forever in October, but not without a month-long send off for a quarter century of service to the Portland rock community.

When The Dandys were asked to participate in this send off, we said “of course.” Some of the band’s most memorable moments from its formative years took place between Satyricon’s graffitied walls. It was a no-brainer to ask Swoon 23 and Sugarboom, friends and Tim/Kerr label mates, to join us. Yeah, that’s a pretty legendary line-up.  But then we thought, huh, what’s missing from this picture. Well, it turned out that missing piece was Eric Hedford. So, for the first time in over twelve years, Eric Hedford, drummer and founding member of The Dandy Warhols, will be performing with the band.

I know it sounds too good to be true. And if you were born before 1979, it is.  See, we thought it that since this is kind of a scene reunion show that we have the party be for ages thirty-one (31) and over.  Even worse news, I’m sure there will be no smoking allowed.  Have you ever seen a clear Satyricon? I haven’t. Seems wrong.

How does one go about getting tickets? Lee has the answer:

So here’s the deal…

There’s a total of 240 tickets available for the 10/16 Satyricon gig and 2 ways to make sure you get tickets.

1st way – We’re reserving the first 140 tix for Pre Sale starting 9/21 at Noon PST. Access to the presale will be given to anyone who purchases Pre Sale [see below — g.] tickets to our 12/12 Crystal Ballroom show. Put simply. Fashion’s Night Out in LA This Friday

We seriously dig fashion, and fashion has always dug us.  So it’s supercool that we have been asked to play at Fashion’s Night Out Los Angeles this Friday in LA at Ron Herman on Melrose.

PRPS and Ron Herman present a special live musical performance by indie rock darlings The Dandy Warhols in celebration of Fashions Night Out Los Angeles. As a part of Vogue’s global initiative to celebrate fashion and promote retail, this highly anticipated Los Angeles shopping night will feature exciting showcases from renowned LA designers, photographers, and artists all under one roof…

See? Darlings. We invite you to come on by if you’re around.  Other cool cats like Mark Mothersbaugh (!!), Taylor Jacobson, Shanna Moakler, Holly Robinson Peete, Garth Trinidad, Camryn Manheim, and some of our BRMC friends will be there.

The big whoop on Fashion’s Night Out can be found HERE.

To Die For

In Seattle at Bumbershoot.  We’re playing at the foot of the Space Needle.  I’ll see if someone will send me pics of us playing with it in the background.

Slightly more interesting though is the gaming conference which is happening in a pretty big way too. I loved these great looking hipsters, one photographing the other whilst he hugs the eye of the beholder.

Yes, thank you.

I’m also gonna tell you how much I’m digging on my framing what with the four sided and eight sided and twelve sided dice adding such depth and dimension.  OH I didn’t just slip that in there too.  I’m on a roll…..ok ouch. Sorry.

Zia’s Brush Prairie Tour In September

Hello music lovers,
I have my first musical side project and we’re hitting the road! My band, Brush Prairie (acoustic covers of vintage tunes and a few originals) is heading down the West Coast with Hawkeye (featuring my hubby Travis) and 1776 (you must have heard of them by now).  We’ll be ending up at the 4th annual Clean Air Clear Stars Festival in Pioneertown, CA and so should you.  Or at least get to whichever of the following stops is closest to your pad (or your mom’s):

9/10/10 at Knifefest – The Knife Shop at Kelly’s Olympian, Portland, Oregon

9/11/10 at The World Famous Kenton Club, Portland, Oregon

9/13/10 at Bottom of the Hill, San Francisco, California

9/14/10 at Audie’s Olympic Tavern, Fresno, California

9/15/10 at 3 of Clubs, Los Angeles, California

Sept 18/19 at Clean Air Clear Stars, Pioneer Town, California

This is gonna be a super fun tour and to take it one step further than the amazing festival in the desert there will be a kick ass RECOVERY party at The ACE Hotel Palm Springs on Sept 19 & 20th. When you call The ACE to book your room make sure to mention Clean Air Clear Stars (CACS) for a discount and to get your room grouped with everyone else’s. I’ll be DJing in the Amigo Room Sunday night and poolside Monday afternoon. If your not sure about how much fun you’ll have just ask anyone that was there last year. Middle of the night pool parties and fireside sing alongs is just a start. This is one extended weekend you don’t wanna miss!

PS, if you ever wanna hear me DJ locally I’m at Jinx (232 NW 12th) every friday 4-7 for happy hour and once a month at Jade lounge (24th and SE Ankeny). Both places have a good atmosphere and great food with, of course, perfect music.

xx

Killer Dave Comes Through

Killer Dave came through!

A few years back Dave Dahl (Dave’s Killer Bread) became friends and I asked him for a lo-cal bread.  He said he would and that he’d name it after me. Well the bread is finally here, not named after me but it does have a very kind dedication on the back label.

If the bread is anywhere near as good as the samples I tested then it’s a superb lo-cal bread AND it even comes in two of his famous variety’s. For those of you unfamiliar with Dave’s Killer Bread READ HERE.  You can find his amazing bread in 5 states and counting. Enjoy! And Thanks Killer Dave, you rule!

Courtney Movie Review: Intermission & The Savages

Intermission

(2003)

There’s some great performances and some great clever writing here but ultimately someone should’ve lobotomized this writer before he was actually allowed to complete the “4th wall breaking” part of this mess.

The Savages

(2007)

It took me a good 30 minutes befor I went “ew, what an awful idea for a movie” and turned it off.

Avatar I reviewed when it came out. Update: “Dances With Wolves In Space”.
