Just a reminder, the virgin voyage of Zia’s show on W + K Radio is this morning at 11a (Pacific). You can listen at W + K, on your media player (like iTunes), or below in the embedded player.
One of the only baroque records that I truly love is a collection of tafelmusik by Johann Heinrich Schmeltzer. Back in those days the very wealthy and powerful would hire their favorite composer to make music to dine to. Thus tablemusic became a genre.
Recently we have begun recording some very cool music that I’m hoping will become an album of perfect modern tafelmusik. Somebody’s gotta do it. We have a lot of dinner parties so we’ll be able to take it for a lot of test runs. Fun. As we go, I’ll put little thirty second bits of it up that FatHead records live on his laptop microphone.
Oh my gosh Anton’s new stuff has fat beats. He just sent me about half a dozen tracks and it’s amazing.
I’ll ask him if I can put a little bit of it up on here.
There’s one particular track that I think might be the coolest one that any of us or our friends has ever made.
He sings really cool on this stuff too.
Jeez. Really some unbelievably cool beats here. Damn. Leave it to Anton.
Alright we’re just about decided on the remixes of Amigos. It was very difficult since a multitude of genius remixers went ahead and got involved. Maybe we’ll announce on Monday.
Well, Denver again. That magical land where there’s no traffic jams. Really. I’ve never been in traffic in Denver.
Anyhoo check this out. This is one of the coolest installations I’ve seen anywhere. This is in the Denver Art Museum.
Heres what it looks like:
And here’s what it does with flash photography:
“Fox Games” by Sandy Skoglund
They’re having an exhibit of 300 rock posters which FatHead and I will be checking out later this month between skiing.
The lovely folks at Wired.com give props to BTW recording artist’s Spindrift this fine Friday Morning. They’re featuring The New West from the full length album The West out now!
For those who don’t already know, Spindrift, along with Mike Bruce (who directed some Dandy’s videos), made a film a while back. The Legend of God’s Gun. Here’s the trailer…
Spindrift are on tour with The Upsidedown. They’re playing The Lucky Bar in Victoria, BC tonight and Chapel Arts in Vancouver on Saturday. CLICK HERE for the full run of shows.
Zia’s now got a coveted slot on Wieden + Kennedy’s WK Radio, which streams out of the renowned Portland ad agency’s HQ to the world at large. You can catch DJ Zia Rescue Wednesdays starting March 11 from 11-12n (PST).
You can stream what’s happening right now on WK Radio by pressing play below. Zia’s not currently on, but we’ll Tweet the morning of to remind you. (If you haven’t already, be sure to hook up with our Twitter feed.)
Congratulations Portland! We finally won the honor of Unhappiest City in The US. Thanks to all the cloudy days, high suicide rates and shite economy we win! Now maybe all those developers and business folks will think twice before adding another ‘Pearl’ to Portland. Leave us be, leave us to our rain and grief, our coffee and cigarettes, our dark arts. Oh wait, is that it? Did we get even sadder now that we have to smoke outside in the rain? Is that what finally got us crowned as The Saddest? Sadder than New Orleans, St. Louis and Detroit? Well so be it.
Hey man, what are you up to? We’re still in the development phase for this site, figuring out what we want to do, what should go where, all that jazz. We’ll figure it all out. Thanks for coming by to read what we have going on so far. A lot more is on the way, for sure.
At the Oddy, we’re finishing up out Earth To The Remix EP Vol 2 which is due to be in stores on April 18 for Record Store Day. With all-new remixes by The Dandy Warhols, it’s something you really should not miss. (And if you’re a subscriber to our Subscription Service, you know you won’t miss a damn thing.)
Got Twitter? We do. Follow us over there. (We gotta come up with a better word for “tweets”, though. I mean, this is Oregon, we have bigger birds than ones that go “tweet.”) Anyway, that’s over there, so check it out.
Finally, our Beat The World label mates Spindrift and The Upsidedown are now on tour in the western U.S. Together, in some cases – like tonight, here in Portland. You would feel really dumb if you missed these two awesome groups. “And what did you do while Spindrift and The Upsidedown were in town?” “Oh, I had my thump up my butt.” No.
More news on the way soon, I’m sure. Unless we get hit by an asteroid. Did you hear about that? Scary. Take cover.
