Courtney’s They Don’t Make ‘Em Like They Used To: The Three O’Clock

When I was about 15 or 16 I put my best mod suit on and went downtown with my scooter boys to an empty room in an old warehouse and watched this amazing band with about twenty other scenesters.

San Diego was rumored to have had a strong md scene at the time so we all were under the impression that The Three O’Clock was an S.D. band. They were in fact an LA band and part of what was called the paisley underground which included Rain Parade and the Bangles amongst other 60’s influenced jangle guitar bands.

It just courted to me that the room was called “occupied space” and is now a sushi restaurant called Masu. They have the best salmon sashimi in the world. It’s true. I hope it survives the lockdown.

Courtney’s They Don’t Make Em Like They Used To: Tenpole Tudor

Tenpole Tudor had three hits in a row starting with the track “Three Bells In A Row” which I bought the single of on vinyl when I was a kid. It seems This predates MTV just enough to have only made videos for the second two singles. I don’t recall ever seeing them and I was an avid MTV watcher.

Watching them now I’m blown away by how cool this band is. The singer is the hottest dude ever. Guitarist is killing it on the hairstyle. Teddy boy with hairspray instead of grease. Awesome.

How this singer could put a band this cool together with cats who clearly are into it and believe in him but then not stay together is beyond me. And after having three U.K. hits in a row. Musta been some serious fucked up ego bullshit behavior goin on. Btw this singer was supposed to replace Lydon in the Sex Pistols at one point. He is in at least one of the Harry Potter movies. Pretty crazy lookin extremely Englishman now.

Coronavirus Statement

Hey all, we hope everyone is safe at home and doing well. In the wake of this COVID-19 (“Coronavirus”) pandemic we wanted to drop a note letting you know what is going on in Dandyland.

It goes without saying that our April gigs in Philly, Jersey, and Brooklyn were cancelled. We’re working with promoters to reschedule, but given the current climate that’s hard to do. Best we can say is we’ll let you know when we know.

As for Europe in June… though the shows have not been officially cancelled, our hopes are not high. Again, we’ll let you know when we know.

In the meantime, we’re digging through our vaults for some unreleased tracks and goodies for you, and are seeing about setting up a livestream concert from the Odditorium if we can figure out how to do it. Again, we’ll keep you posted.

Please stay safe, stay at home, practice social distancing when not at home, wash your hands properly, and all the other safety precautions you should already know by now.

Talk to you soon,
