Sad news this Sunday morning with the word of Lou Reed’s passing at age 71. To say that his impact on every person you or I know was deep is a gross understatement. Here’s lookin’ at you, Lou.

Courtney’s Books: 1776
This was the most depressing week of my life. I should’ve just dug in and got it over with in like a day. God it’s an amazing story but wow is it ever brutal.
Somehow I think it’s important to know how things really went down with the whole independence from England thing and this book seems to have the greatest number of personal letters and memoirs as well as a conservative writer who stays out of his own way and lets you just get way inside this beast.
I hugely recommend it but try to get it over with as quickly as possible cuz knowing how it ends doesn’t really help.

13 Songs in 13 Places: Video Premiere Party
Last spring The Dandy Warhols kicked off the celebration of the thirteenth anniversary of their watershed album Thirteen Tales From Urban Bohemia by performing each of the album’s thirteen tracks in thirteen different locations around downtown Portland. These stripped down guerrilla street performances were filmed for posterity by Into The Woods and will premiere Sunday, October 27th at the Hollywood Theater in NE Portland.
The evening is set to begin with acoustic performances of Dandys tunes by friends of the band featuring:
Dave of Dave’s Killer Bread, Mike Allred of Madman Comics fame, Rick Bain of Rick Bain and the Genius Position, Nigel Ledgerwood of 1776 Jsun Adams of The Upsidedown, Megan Pickerel & Herman Jolly of Buzzyshyface, and Highway.
Followed by the video premiere
Finishing with a Q&A session with The Dandy Warhols.

1. I found this trip to Mexico City to be very inspiring. I noticed these projects were so clean and white punctuated with those classic festive Mexican colors. I’ve drunk rivers of tequila to those colors.

13 Songs in 13 Places Video Premiere October 27th

Plus, one lucky fan will have an opportunity to perform a Dandys cover live on-stage. Fans can record their most interesting Dandys cover – from 1995’s Dandys Rule OK all the way through to 2012’s This Machine. To enter, post your cover song link on the Dandys Facebook timeline (at ) with the hashtag #TheDandyWarholsCoverOK. Anyone can enter, but to win one must attend the show at Hollywood Theater October 27th. Because the prize is playing the song, duh, if you’re not there how can you even win?
Tickets for the show are $12 and are available at the door. This event is all-ages.

News: Mexico City, ’13 Songs’ Video Premieres, Balkan Interview
Three things:
ITEM: We’re about week away from Festival Corona Capital in Mexico City (SAT 12 OCT). Now word comes down today that Zia (DJ Rescue) will be spinning the night before (FRI 11 OCT) at Legión Americana. Drop by, it’ll be a hoot!
ITEM: Hey PDX’ers don’t make plans for October 27th, we’re having the premiere of our 13 Songs in 13 Places videos that night at The Hollywood Theatre. We’re still waiting on the ticket info for some reason, so we’ll have it for you next week, as well as details on a fun contest we’re putting on to go with the event.
ITEM: Courtney sat down with what we are told is the big whoop with rock in the Balkans, take a look HERE if you read Serbian. (I don’t!)
