Here’s a random factoid: the bluefin tuna is so rare (endangered) that in Japan one fish is worth up to 50 grand in sushi. Because of this they won’t put it on the “no-catch” (endangered) list. Wtf.

First of all, wow. A history of NYC told through oysters. Talk about factoids. The first steam engine was invented in 1698. Over 100 years later (1807) Robert Fulton would create a steamboat monopoly in the Hudson Valley and be credited with inventing them. This is the factoid I just read and I’m about a third of the way through.
This writer not only does his homewerk but is also wry and clever. I’m not gonna dig around for an example so just get this book and start reading.

And while we’re discussing the ill-advised topic of politics…
Here’s an animatic that my friend Dan made of a scene from my graphic novel. It’s about a German technonoise band that disappears in 1978 and the effect that politics had on them. And yes of course I tried to make it as much like Star Wars as I am capable but unfortunately it’s just not set in space.
He sent me this thing a few days ago and I think I’ve watched it like 400 times. To watch even a little part of this story live in real time at all gives me a huge amazing feeling that wasn’t expecting at all. It’s a dark and dreamy otherplace that I can go for a couple minutes at a time. Fuckin awesome. Listen to it on headphones.

Confusion sparks Primal Scream rant
A furious tirade launched against the Conservatives by rock band Primal Scream appears to have been sparked by confusion between two similar riffs.
The group issued an angry statement railing against the use of their music amid reports on Twitter that Home Secretary Theresa May left the stage to the strains of 1994 top ten hit Rocks.
Not only were the famously left-wing Scottish band upset at being associated with the “sick” party, they said, but lyrics about drug taking and prostitution hardly seemed appropriate.
However the party, which had initially appeared to confirm the song had been used, later insisted that in fact the track chosen was Bohemian Like You by the Dandy Warhols.
WTF? Where do I bitch about this? I’ll tear their fuggin heads off. Well maybe not but this happened to us in an Arkansas gubernatorial race and it makes me super angry. And then I wanna puke.
Why don’t these assholes have right-wing bands make them some right-wing music for their right-wing jerkoff politics? Oh, because right wing people aren’t creative, visionary or any fun to be around. Nor are they productive or even introspective about it. Wait, I live in Portland, Oregon….neither are left-wingers come to think of it.
Jesus, I tend to really dislike ANY people who take sides in politics. It is the single greatest contributor to getting nothing done. Fuck “politics”. What a joke. I give my charitable donations to people who get on a plane themselves and go to Haiti or Africa and help other people. Do you? NEVER to a political machine. I like to get shit done. You do too.
Fuck, now I’m pissed off.

Wow I’m bummed I Missed New York in the 70’s.
When I’d visit Pete there in the early 90’s it was a lot more like that than it is now. Perhaps if we go through another 15 years of recession/depression New York City might become that cool again. Who knows, but I do think the days of primered quarter-panels are numbered.

Pattern Recognition (Wm Gibson)
I’m about halfway through this book and it’s rocking out super hard now. It really only took about 40 pages to get up out of the quagmire and start moving. It becomes int’l espionagey like all ny times bestsellers seem to but the difference here is William Gibson and the sheer size of his brain. Amazing. I’ve gotta say that what ben franklin was to inventing, this guy is to fiction.

Well I’m flying again and this guy isn’t helping. Neither is Delta.
When I was 19 I werked at a bar that hosted poetry nights. Old guys would occasionally get onstage and start rattling off what they felt were hip phrases and cool reference points and god it was fuggin boring and I just wanted them to JUST SAY IT! Whatever the hell it is that you mean, just say it.
That’s what this book is doing to me now. It reads like a catalogue of hip reference points and sassy phrases that one must dig and grindones way through to find the storythread. I’ve found it twice so far….I think. But my head hurts. I think this man needs an editor.
As for Delta, I have 3 hrs in this airport and as I’m flying alone and all day I spent the xtra dough for first class. Can I get into the 1st class lounge? NO! Wtf? I can assure you if there is ever any terrorism or airrage associated with Delta I bet its got nothing to do with the U.S. Govt or this shitty consumer culture we’ve created and now must labor under or god putting OUR oil under THEIR desert.
NOPE its Delta.
