ITEM: We’re about week away from Festival Corona Capital in Mexico City (SAT 12 OCT). Now word comes down today that Zia (DJ Rescue) will be spinning the night before (FRI 11 OCT) at Legión Americana. Drop by, it’ll be a hoot!
ITEM: Hey PDX’ers don’t make plans for October 27th, we’re having the premiere of our 13 Songs in 13 Places videos that night at The Hollywood Theatre. We’re still waiting on the ticket info for some reason, so we’ll have it for you next week, as well as details on a fun contest we’re putting on to go with the event.
ITEM: Courtney sat down with what we are told is the big whoop with rock in the Balkans, take a look HERE if you read Serbian. (I don’t!)
You call that a summer? What FUN things are going on this weekend in and around the world of The Dandy Warhols?
ITEM: Zia will be DJing under her guise as DJRescue this afternoon at Jinx, 12 and Everett in NW Portland (Pearl). She says to come out since it’s a beuaturful day (yeah, so far!), and with tour coming up fast she won’t be in as frequently. So go. Jinx (21+/Free/4pm)
ITEM: Pete will be playing with Pete International Airport tonight at The Woods in the Sellwood neighborhood of Portland. He’ll have arts, crafts, and oh, the debut PIA album to buy before it hits stores. The Woods (21+/$5/10pm)
ITEM: And, of course, THE DANDY WARHOLS (who?) are playing at the big-ass Bumbershoot in Seattle on Sunday. Look out, Weezer! Bumbershoot (All-ages/$$$/???)
ITEM: This “This is the Tide” song is blowing up. You should play it at your BBQ on Monday, or whenever, and watch people take their clothes off. (*Some alcohol may be required, purchased separately.) Your BBQ (All-ages/Free/All Day Labor Day)
So I’m thinking about getting a whippet. But my landlord just said I couldn’t have pets. The nerve! (Like I didn’t know already.) Should I just move or what? Keep in mind that I have lived int his apartment for six years and before that Fathead lived here for six years. It’s obviously the best apartment ten feet from an interstate in the WORLD. Sure, it will never survive even the smallest of earthquakes, it really feels like home. But dogs are pretty funny.
ITEM: When I was talking about working on a new record, I did not mean the Capitol Records retrospective slated for release in a few months. But yeah, that’s coming. Two new Dandys song? Never before seen photographs? Full greyscale packaging? What? Want a preview of it?
Wait, I think that might be one of those shirts you get at Urban Outfitters. Guys, the Capitol logo is a classic. It’s the greatest logo in all of music. Yes, even better than that dog staring into an old-timey phonograph. That dog died 100 years ago, it’s depressing.

ITEM: Fathead’s on Twitter now. You can follow him at @fatheaddeboer. Court still tweets at @courtneyTaylor2, and Lee helms the band Twitter at @TheDandyWarhols. I also just spend like an hour setting up a Beat The World Twitter @BeatTheWorldRec. What’s the deal with this Fail Whale? Why is he so smug?
(I had the idea today that if Dorothy Parker TWEETED her classic line, “boys don’t make passes at girls who wear glasses”, that 90% of her responses would not only get the joke, but most of those would angrily try to prove her wrong. “Actually I take great offense to this statement. I wear glasses and I sleep with ten different guys a week.” Crumbs.)

ITEM: Short notice notice – DJRescue (ZIA!) has got her thing going at Jinx (232 NW 12) this afternoon, 4-7. I challenge you to stop by, you peoples at Weiden + Kennedy, you peoples at Powells, you people at other places working within a ten block radius.

Well, that’s it. There were a couple of real news items in there, somewhere.
It’s been really neat for “Zia & Kirk” to be asked so often to do our country covers set. I didn’t expect it but I LOVE it. We’ve even added several songs to our repertoire because of it. Anyway, this night will be a fun one to catch us and a few other fun bands. Still working on some details like drink specials and stuff, I’ll keep you posted.
If you’re like me, I’m so sorry. No, if you’re like me you have an affinity for New Years, like one-hundred times stronger than with The Christmas. (Sacrilege.) Because no matter what, I’m always saying to myself “well, that was the worst year ever,” and for once I can just maybe look forward to something not so terrible. And hey, I’m looking forward to people saying “Twenty-ten” – the thought of not having to hear “two-thousand-and-blah” ad infinitum, I’m pretty damned giddy about that. Maybe I will even leave the Gothman Estate, go out and venture into the cloud of irresponsible drunkards one more time in observance of this turning of the decade. Wouldn’t that be something?
Well, if there was any show that would bring out a zombie shut-in, the one cooked up for 31 DEC 09 would be it.
